The Flute Bakery, Fyshwick - Canberra

Nestled in between the many factories, this is sure an odd location for such a place. Fyshwick is mainly known to be an industrial area and porn & adult shop central.

I first heard about this bakery when my mum told me how she went to a friend's party and they had the most gorgeous cakes from a place in Fyshwick. She didn't have the name or exactly where it was located, only that it was opposite Bunning's Warehouse, and some furious Googling on my part was futile. It didn't seem to be a shop that needed any advertising!

Anyway, fast forward to my random blog trawling a few days ago, as I usually do when I'm bored at work, and I came across The Flute Bakery in a post, and it seemed like the bakery I was searching for (and it turned out to be!)

I don't know how I never knew about this place before, I've been here for over 20 years and only just knew about it now *Canberran fail* It's definitely a well kept secret!

Not very worker friendly either - only open Monday to Friday 8am - 3pm

I managed to sneak away from work at around 11am, just before it became really busy. *phew* (so obviously it's not such a well kept secret after all since so many people are in the know!)

Yummy selection of breads and pastries - I seriously wanted one of everything, they had these delicious looking honey and macadamia brioches that totally have my name on them next time!

Selection of pies

Hehe my mum after ordering

The place is quite small but they have outdoor seating as well- get there early to avoid the crowd!

Sandwiches, brioche and other bready things

What I really came for - look at the amazing display of pretty cakes!!! (I'll have one of each hehe)

Casual place for dining in, with cute artwork everywhere

Decided since we were there, we should have lunch before going on a cake buying rampage:

The most delicious quiche in the world (well that I've ever eaten) - Pumpkin and asparagus, with buttery and flaky pastry and yummy chunks of pumpkin throughout. THIS WAS AWESOME!

Chicken and leek (or was it tarragon?) pie - This was good too, great pastry! But does not top the quiche at all

The dazzling display - It's like being a kid in a candy store

My treasures:

Grand Marnier white chocolate mousse

Triple chocolate mousse

I haven't been through them all yet, but I had this one last night and it's SO good!

Layers of mousse- white chocolate, raspberry, chocolate with 2 layers of cake

Amazing! <3

Not that I want you all stealing my precious cakes because I'm greedy like that, and it's busy enough, but you have to try this place if you are a fan of bread, cakes, pastries and pies.

Yuki - I don't actually know the name of the cake with all the layers but it was so good!! I just made up a name for it hehe

And I was quite discreet in taking the photos, so I don't think they actually noticed! Haha Maybe they don't want people stealing their cake designs?

Lilee- Thanks!

When you move to Sydney, you will absolutely have to go to Adriano Zumbo's patisserie!
