Axis Restaurant - National Museum of Australia, Canberra

It was such a lovely day yesterday, perfect for having a nice leisurely meal outside at Axis Restaurant overlooking Lake Burley Griffin at the National Museum of Australia.

It's a quiet little corner of Canberra on this Saturday afternoon, except for a few other tables and a plethora of people soaking up the sunshine on their walks and tourists wandering around the lake.

We grab a table outside with this lovely view of the National Library in the distance

Specials of the Day

And the regular menu with many tempting options to choose from

I was in the mood for something sweet so I ordered a Midori Splice, have not had one of these for ages!

Sea scallops with cumin on curried cauliflower puree & salmon caviar - scallops and cauliflower are a winning combo, and this one has the extra kick of cumin and salty bursts of caviar

Teriyaki seared beef roll with papaya, peanut and baby herbs

Pork fillet stuffed with apricot and pistachio, spinach, barley and walnut risotto

Complimentary sweets at the end of the meal, as we were too full for dessert! I did see another table enjoying their desserts, and they looked pretty amazing

The museum, I had a peek in the gift shop and it's pretty good! So many nifty Australian gifts and gourmet treats, definitely a good place to get Christmas presents etc

A stroll around the lake afterwards was the perfect end to a perfect meal... will definitely be back!
