Crazy Wings - Chatswood, Sydney

Everything seems to taste better when it's on a skewer and cooked over a charcoal barbecue.

I've only heard great things about Crazy Wings so I was keen to try it and since I was already in Chatswood, it was a no brainer as I remembered that they have a branch there.

It was super early so the restaurant was relatively empty, filling up as we made the way through the meal.

Pineapple ice - this was pretty refreshing, I also had a taste of the lychee ice which was quite nice too.

Shallot pancake - this turned out to be a disappointing dish, it was so oily it was almost inedible

Teriyaki beef fried rice - the disappointment was soon forgotten with this delicious and tasty fried rice

And then there were the skewers:

Honey soy chicken skewers

Prawn and beef skewers

Honestly, what skewered treat doesn't taste good?

Cafe Sydney - Customs House, Circular Quay

Last weekend, it was off to Cafe Sydney with some Canberra friends.  Located on the 5th floor of Customs House, the views of the harbour bridge are stunning, it's not hard to see why they are constantly booked out.

I managed to nab a bright and early 6:00pm booking (it was either that or after 9:30pm!!)

We settle in, and I quickly decided on my choices as I was starving by this point

My cocktail choice for the night

Classically deboned quail, gorgonzola filled zucchini flower, celery heart, walnut, apple cider vinaigrette

I tried a bit of this dish and the quail was very juicy and full of flavour.

Seared scallops, prosciutto, peas, quinoa, horseradish creme fraiche, lemon vinaigrette

I always gravitate toward scallops for my entree dish as they never disappoint, and these were fantastic.

Crumbed crab cake, grilled prawn, cornichon, fennel, sauce gribiche

And then onto mains:

Peppered beef tenderloin, caramelised onion tart, swiss brown mushroom, porcini cream, jus

Chips - these were just your regular shoestring fries, I think I prefer thick style chips

Crispy twice cooked pork belly, prosciutto wrapped pork fillet, apple, savoy cabbage

Crackle crackle.

De-boned spatchcock, heirloom baby carrot, mushroom, sweet corn, jus

This was my dish and it was delicious.

The most important part of the meal is of course, dessert:

I had my eye on the dessert platter, but the boys weren't that keen on dessert so we didn't have the majority vote for the dessert platter.

Mango cheesecake
Warm rhubarb tart, pistachio crumble, fresh raspberry ripple ice cream

Fried banana - I really enjoyed this, the flavours of the brittle, peanuts and chocolate worked very well together.

Dessert platter, I'll be back for you next time!

Alio Restaurant - Surry Hills, Sydney

On Monday night, I had dinner at Alio to celebrate the lovely vxdollface's birthday.  Alio were kind enough to let us use her free birthday degustation in conjunction with the vouchers we received during the cooking class.

Degustation time - I was starving by this point so I was really looking forward to the meal ahead.

But first things first...

Cocktail list

Pumpkin soup - served in a cute little cup, this creamy and flavoursome pumpkin soup was a lovely start of what was to come.

Mixed marinated olives and 40 month old aged Regianno Parmigiano
Garlic and rosemary foccacia - this was the same one as was made in the cooking class, and it was fantastic.

Pretty mocktails

Free champagne for everyone! (to celebrate V's birthday which was a lovely touch)

My cocktail - can't remember the name of this, but it had elderflower in it

Espresso martini - I tried a sip of this and it was delicious!

One of my favourite dishes - organic chicken liver parfait with crostini. I couldn't get enough of this, slathering it on heartily

Tasmanian salmon gravlax with mustard dressing and radish - such a pretty dish!

Scallops wrapped in pancetta with fresh peas, asparagus and a bagna cauda dressing - you can't really go wrong with scallops, especially with the tasty addition of pancetta.

Potato gnocchi with tomato, basil and mussels

This was a beef dish that replaced the lamb in the degustation

Blood orange sorbet - very refreshing and I love blood orange so I was a huge fan of this, it was a nice palate cleanser for the dessert to come:

Chocolate semi freddo with poached cherries

V's birthday surprise - a beautiful pavlova with a sparkler and her twitter username hehe

It was a lovely way to celebrate, I'll definitely be back when it's my birthday!
