I always seem to miss the special voucher deals for the bargain degustations, so I jumped at the chance when I saw this deal for an 8 course degustation at The Fern.
The lovely Creamy Middles and I met up last Friday after work to partake in degustation goodness. Luckily the rain held out, which made the walk down to Redfern possible.
The decor has an electic/mismatched feel and when asked where we'd like to sit, we weigh up the options and choose a spot near the front for maximum lighting.
A fruity red wine sangria is a nice start to the meal... I was starving by this point so I was very happy when the food started coming out.
Olive bread - not the world's greatest fan of olives, but it was really nice
We dubbed this course the 'pickled stuff' which was exactly what it was - the cauliflower was refreshing and crunchy, but the rest of the dish remained largely untouched.
Luckily the rest of the courses were fantastic:
Wagyu oxtail empanadas - these were heavenly!
Grilled cuban corn
Falafels - deliciously crunchy falafel
Sardines on toast with horseradish cream and capers
And for the grand finale: Churros!!

Wow - had no idea they do food like this as I've only ever had brekky here...
We bought this voucher too, as I'm a voucher junkie. The food sounds great...can't wait for our booking date to roll around.
Felafels and gnocchi are two of my most favourite things ever. I had a sweet potato gnocchi at a local organic restaurant and it was one of the nicest meals ever :)

Australian Fashion Review Blog - Gems - gnocchi is one of those things when done well is very nice, but can be quite disappointing when it's not! I really enjoyed the fern's version.
Corrina - Can't go wrong with corn, and churros :)
