Whilst searching for recommendations for places to eat in Napier, Mister D came up with rave reviews about their famous DIY filling donut.
The restaurant is housed in one of the many art deco buildings in Napier and is quite bright and open.
Complimentary bread to start off the meal with
Cloudy Bay clams, D-squid ink fettucini, garlic, chilli & oregano
The cloudy bay clams was probably my favourite dish that I had in New Zealand - these were so juicy and a great match with the fettucini.
Lmab ribs braised, lentils, fregola, shallots, habenero mustard
Delicious and hearty dish.
Special of the day - caramelised onion and cheese tart with side salad
With onions cooked until they are sweet and a crispy, buttery tart base, you can't go wrong!
Vanilla cured salmon, Ahuriri Black asparagus, Telegralph Hill olive caviar
Nice and refreshing flavours, though this seemed more of an appetiser than a main dish.
The famous injectable donut, it's so popular that they don't even bother to list it on their menu! You just have to ask for it :P
I was convinced to go for both the chocolate and custard syringes.
We also went to Arataki honey, which is basically a little honey information centre and souvenir shop, where they have honey tasting samples and live bee displays.
More varieties of honey than you can even dream of...
