Vegie Bar, a vegetarian/vegan restaurant opened 20 years ago, seems to be a Melbourne institution with massive queues on the Saturday night of our visit.
Vegie Bar is situated in trendy inner city Fitzroy on the main strip of restaurants on Brunswick street.
An impressive list of drinks that include raw shakes + lots of smoothies and juices. I feel healthy just reading the menu.
Of course I go for a 'naughty' option instead with this gorgeous mojito packed with vibrant raspberries
The restaurant is pretty big, and has a casual, communal feel to it, with everyone sharing tables. Be prepared to shout over the crowd to have a conversation.
Baked stuffed mushroom
Chips with vegan aioli - sadly the aioli is not the creamy consistency I'm accustomed to, though that's comparing apples to oranges and for a vegan version, it's not half bad.
Vegetable penang curry - despite curry never photographing well, this was actually pretty tasty! Served with a giant pappadum and a side of rice, the serving was quite generous and I struggled to finish it.
