On my recent visit back to Canberra, one of the cafes on my breakfast hit list was The Cupping Room, located near the ANU in Civic.
I visit with my mum on a Friday morning, and it's surprisingly full. Luckily, we arrive fairly early and parking around the vicinity wasn't an issue. By the time we left, it was a different story!
The Cupping Room comes from the team at Ona coffee, so you know it will definitely be good. The coffee menu is slightly different from other cafes, as in they only offer one type of milk based coffee. You choose a blend and either have it milk based or black.
Milk based espresso
70% cacao mocha
Ham hock fritters
Ham hock, corn and potato fritters with two poached eggs, 'cuppers hot sauce', and a cress and alfalfa salad
Ricotta hotcakes from the special menu
These babies were a bit different from the usual pancakes - two huge discs, crispy on the outside and fluffy and light on the inside. The ricotta hotcakes were topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, almonds, figs and pomegranate.
Overall, I was very impressed with the breakfast and coffee here. Highly recommend The Cupping Room as a pitstop for anyone visiting Canberra!
I ended up going for a walk around the arboretum tracks to burn it off so I could greedily fit in lunch at Akiba (post on that to come very soon!)
