Hunter Gatherer - North Sydney, Sydney

Hunter Gatherer is the latest addition to the North Sydney bar and dining scene. Located where the Burgers by Josh pop-up once was in the Greenwood Plaza rooftop complex, the restaurant itself is spacious and modern.

I was invited to the launch party on Tuesday night to check out this lovely new space.

The menu is Ottolenghi inspired and is based around seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The bar here offers a range of craft beers, cocktails, and natural wines.

I very much enjoyed my glass of Mad Hatter shiraz, and the "Cobbled together" cocktail which was an interesting mix of Tanqueray gin, Fino sherry, house-made preserved nectarines and lemons.

The Burnt by the Storm cocktail

Bundaberg rum served with salted caramel ginger beer and lime, served with a 'burnt' umbrella for a humorous touch.

Kurobata pork croquettes

Lamb ribs

The canap├ęs were quite substantial and gave a good idea of what the menu is like. The lamb ribs were so tender, with the meat falling off the bone. I enjoyed the freshly shucked oysters too, can't get much fresher than when it's shucked right in front of you!

I love the idea of the menu being split up into 'hunter' (meat based options) and 'gatherer' (vegetable based options) and the ability to mix and match the dishes to create a plate of goodies, makes me keen to check it out for dinner very soon.

missklicious and guest attended the launch party thanks to Pendulum Communications.

Shortstop - Barangaroo, Sydney

Barangaroo has become livelier by the day, especially with the exciting new addition, Short Stop, all the way from Melbourne.

Having just freshly opened this week, the artisan donuts have been a huge hit. The donuts are made in fresh on site, with great quality and natural ingredients.

The counter has a donut display with the flavours of the day; after placing your order at the counter, the staff then collect and assemble the orders. Despite the shop being very new, it's a quick and efficient operation.

Assorted donuts

Purchase five donuts and it will come in a box instead of a bag. I buy a box of assorted donuts to share at the office for a "fat Friday".

Triple matcha

The matcha donut is a cake base topped with a white chocolate matcha glaze. The donut is quite dense compared to the others, and the glaze is sweet from the white chocolate, with a hint of matcha.

Maple walnut brown butter

I highly recommend getting the maple walnut and brown butter donut. The glaze is a rich and sticky brown butter, covered with maple roasted walnuts. Amazing. The donut itself is so soft and pillowy.

Australian sea salt and honey

The cruller donut is nice and crispy on the outside; the Australian sea salt gives this donut a savoury kick with the honey glaze adding a touch of sweetness to balance it out.

Rhubarb and ginger

The rhubarb and ginger is made with stewed rhubarb and ginger. To be honest, the rhubarb ginger donut was nice, but it was overshadowed by the rest of the flavours.

Red velvet

The red velvet is the most decadent out of all of the donuts; it's dense and chocolately. Made with real beetroot, which gives it the red colour, it's dipped in dark chocolate glaze and also has a cream cheese centre.

Flat white and earl grey rose

The earl grey and rose donut is sublime. It's made with earl grey tea, lemon myrtle and dipped into a rose water and rose petal icing.

Earl grey and rose

My favourite is definitely the delicate and fragrant earl grey and rose, followed closely by the maple, walnut and brown butter. I have my eye on the iced coffee crueller for next time.

Earth to Table - Bondi Junction, Sydney

After seeing all the delicious looking vegan cakes on Earth to Table's instagram, I finally made my way there one weekend afternoon for some lunch.

Earth to table is a raw, organic and vegan cafe with lots of goodies made in-house. It's a short, 5 minute walk from Bondi Junction station; the building itself has a bright green mural that is hard to miss. Inside the cafe, it's a tad cramped, but there's some seating out the back in the small courtyard.

Shepherd's Pie

A mix of ten different vegetables in this vegan shepherd's pie, served with cauliflower mash as the topping, zucchini gravy, and adorned with sweet potato crisps. Surprisingly, it tasted quite similar to the real deal, down to the mince. However, the dish could have used a bit more texture; besides the sweet potato crisps, it was all a bit sloppy.

Rainbow seaweed salad

The rainbow seaweed salad is a colourful mix of kelp noodles, beetroot, carrot, broccoli and red cabbage in a ginger miso dressing. The kelp noodles add an interesting crunch and texture to this dish.

Pink Dragon smoothie

The bright pink dragon smoothie is an awesome thirst quencher. The smoothie is made with pink pitaya (dragonfruit), mango, berries, baobab and coconut water; rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory.

Lemon and blueberry cheezcake

The array of desserts is so tempting that it's hard to choose - I end up settling on a slice of this delicious looking lemon and blueberry 'cheezcake', a vegan cheesecake made with cashews, lemon and a blueberry swirl.

Whilst the food is decent for vegan/raw/organic, I did find the prices a bit steep and the ambiance was a bit lacking (say compared to Sadhana Kitchen in Enmore). Having said that, I would definitely still drop in for a delicious smoothie or cake.
