Okonomiyaki Kiji お好み焼きじ - Umeda Sky Building, Osaka

When searching for the best okonomiyaki (お好み焼places in Osaka, Okonomiyaki Kiji (お好み焼きじwas one place that seemed to be very highly rated. There are actually two branches that are fairly close together - the main restaurant that is in Shin-Umeda Shokudogai (新梅田食道街), located between Umeda and Osaka Stations, and another one in the Umeda Sky Building.

The following photos are from the Umeda Sky Building branch, but I've visited both branches are they are equally as good, so it just depends which one is closer or more convenient to you. Take note: there will more than likely be a line, we had to wait around 15 minutes for a table during this particular lunch time visit.

How cute is this plate?

We randomly picked two from the menu and both were delicious! The one on the left came with the lot (prawn, squid and pork).

During a subsequent visit to the Shin-Umeda Shokudogai branch, we tried the Modan-yaki, which is okonomiyaki made with a layer of fried noodles (either soba or udon). Whilst it was also good, I thought the original version was way better.

The Good Filo - Ramsgate, Sydney

If you want to indulge in delicious greek pastries and sweets, look no further than The Good Filo in Ramsgate. Walk into the shop and the first thing you see is the amazing range of Greek baked goodies.

There's a huge selection which makes picking something pretty hard! The café is bustling on a Saturday and we nabbed one of the last tables. Ordering is done up at the counter when you're ready.

Coffee frappe

I order the coffee frappe which is icy and refreshing. We started off with some savouries, which to be honest were ordered just to have something to line our stomachs before trying out the desserts.

The real stars of the show were the sweets.

Ekmek Kataifi

The Ekmek Kataifi is a delicious Greek dessert made with laters of kataifi dough which is baked until crispy and golden. The layers are topped with creamy custard, lemon scented syrup, whipped cream and garnished with almonds.

The popular croissantoboureko is an indulgent croissant pastry with semolina custard.

The Good Filo is definitely the place to come to satisfy your sweet tooth with a slice of Greece.

Sapporo City and Ishiya Shiroi Koibito Park 白い恋人パーク

Hokkaido is such a picturesque part of Japan and although it is world famous for it's winter activities and snow festival, the weather in summer was absolutely perfect - warm but not too humid weather in the mid 20's (celcius). Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido and also Japan's fifth largest city.

It's an easy city to walk around and see the various sites around the city.

Former Hokkaido Government office

This American neo-baroque style building, also known as the red brick office, was constructed in 1888 and used for around 80 years until the new government office was built.

The Sapporo clock tower is a short walk from the government office, but unfortunately it was being refurbished during my visit in July 2018, so we weren't able to see it.

Next stop was the Shiroi Koibito Park, which is a 16 minute train ride from Odori Station on the Tozai Line to Miyanosawa Station, plus a short 8 minute walk.

The park houses the Shiroi Koibito factory where the famous Shiroi Koibito (white chocolate lovers) cookies  are produced. The park usually consists of a free area where the shops, cafe and restaurants are. There is also a paid area with chocolate exhibits and viewing of the production line. However, during our visit, the factory was closed as it is being refurbished until mid 2019. This meant that entry to the park was free since we weren't able to see the production line.

Shiroi Koibito Park

We stop by the cafe to relax and enjoy some afternoon tea. There's no shortage of sweet treats on the menu, with mostly parfaits, tea sets and chocolate based drinks.

Shiroi Koibito parfait

I go with the classic choice of the Shiroi Koibito parfait which comes with a mix of chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream made from Hokkaido milk, topped with berries and two of the famous Shiroi Koibito cookies.

Cafe chocolat

Interestingly enough, this was actually an iced chocolate even though it looks more like a parfait with the addition of corn flakes and a general portion of whipped cream.

After finishing our afternoon tea, we walked around the chocolate exhibitions. It didn't take us long since some of it was closed for renovations.

There's was also a nice outdoor area with plenty of cutesy photo opportunities and flowers everywhere.

The mechanical clock tower plays a song with the little characters coming out to perform a parade.
